Television’s power as an informational service was demonstrated by “Where Are You Going?” series of discussion programmes which provided authoritative guidance on careers.

Its value was warmly acknowledged by employers’ associations, trade unionists, educationalists — and particularly by parents and children. Its inclusion in ATV’s schedules was commended by the Minister of Education.

Pupils from Grammar and Secondary Modern schools questioned executives in industry, commerce and the professions on opportunities, necessary qualifications and training and rewards offered by a wide range of occupations.

Frank exchanges of questions and answers — no punches were pulled — made the series an outstanding contribution to public service television.
